Ali Mac

Drummer & Percussionist

Ali Mac is a drummer, percussionist, contemporary dance accompanist, workshop leader, SEND music practitioner and home studio session musician, based in Manchester, UK.

Growing up in the Lake District, he began studying music at the age of nine, when he moved away from home to become a chorister in the Durham Cathedral choir. Music quickly became the focal point of his life, as he continued to focus on music throughout school and collage, eventually arriving at Leeds Collage of Music where he graduated in 2009 with a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies.

His career has carried him around the World, performing and collaborating with an exciting array of artists, musicians, choreographers and producers.

He is also proud to me a musician at the prestigious Northern School of Contemporary Dance, accompanying technique classes in Contemporary dance and ballet, at FE, BA and MA levels as well as performances.

Ali proudly represents a number of music charities, acting as a Music Practitioner, using music to help young people with multiple disabilities and complex needs to express themselves and communicate through music.

Career highlights include:

Signed to Virgin/EMI Records in 2014 as a co-writer and drummer for Zimbabwean soul artist ‘Thabo’.

Became an official Ludwig Drums Artist in 2017.

Became an official Istanbul Agop Cymbals Artist in 2019.

He's a musician at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

Performed in the BBC Radio1 Live Lounge.

Performed alongside Ella Eyre at Ronnie Scott's as part of Universal's New Acts event.

Broadcasted from the Vevo Stage at The Great Escape Festival.

UK, Europe and South American tours / festivals / performances.

Reached #2 in the iTunes Jazz Album charts with "Flight" by John Waugh's (The 1975).

Graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2009 - BA (hons) Degree in Jazz Studies.
